Pair Jeanneret floating back armchairs
A good authentic pair of Chandigarh armchairs. Artisanally and locally made with pegged solid teak and braided canework in the 1960s. This type is known as the floating back armchair. The typical V legs are beautifully proportioned with the seat and back. Previously restaured preserving their patina and sturdy enough for everyday use. The way Jeanneret designed these chairs is a wonderful example of modernist ideas paired with craftmanship and classical proportions. Together with the amazing story of Chandigarh these iconic pieces are as much a conversation piece as artworks as utilitarian... These particular chairs are exceptional good examples of the earliest handmade editions by small local workshops. All around the details (pegs, dovetails, handmarks) testify their authenticity. The fact they are not 100 % identical support their authenticity more. Literature: E. Touchaleaume & G. Moreau, « Le Corbusier Pierre Jeanneret – l'aventure indienne », Editions Gourcuff Gradenigo.
