theo ruth artifort congo chair

A good 1950s Congo chair by Theo Ruth for Artifort. Artifort was founded in 1890 and still exist. Starting out as a Classic seating company they soon attracted modern designers to colaborate with. Theo Ruth was a pecculiar case. Hired as a carpenter he became the head of the r&d branch in 3 years and managed projects with Pierre Paulin and Geoffrey Harcourt. The reason of his success was that he was one of those rare craftsman who also could design or the other way around.... Doing so his most iconic chair was the Pinguin and the armless version the 'Congo' chair. Apart from its timeless design it can also easily be dismantled in two sections (so called tension fix). This Congo is in mint condition and reupholstered with a maroon linen.
