large architectural fragment sculpture 17th century
Large early 17th century French architectural fragment in sandstone. This piece features two putti blowing a Horn sitting on a lobbed pedestal and flanked on the right hand side with a moulded arch fragment. Originally this piece would have been part of the upper side frieze from a castle or mansion. It was reputedly found in a mansion with medieval origins were it was integrated in a wall. Not uncommon for period builders recuperated as much as possible. Most likely 18th century builders used 17th century elements from this building in a reconversion.
